Katey Brooks Opens the Door to Her Closet in New Single “In Your Arms”

England native vocal powerhouse, songwriter and instrumentalist Katey Brooks releases this audacious and divulging single “In Your Arms.” Real musicians use music like a sonic diary. “In my most recent work I’ve finally been able to sing directly about women instead of using the mysterious ‘you’. I want to sing completely, honestly,” Brooks reveals. Although we subsist in a generation that appears to be more accepting of relational diversities some people still struggle with coming to terms with the reality of their sexual attractions. What better a medium to cope with that matter than music?

Brooks confides, “Heart on sleeve, I wanted to tell the woman I love just how much I love her. This song is an expression of what she means to me and how much has transformed for me since I met her.  It’s about that good love, that breaks you open, challenges you, drives you and I think ultimately, makes you a better you.” That kind of love is a rarity but so easily conveyed in Brooks latest tune from her pensive and fervor imbued delivery to her deliberate, imagery brimmed lyricism – a knock out performance. Brooks intrinsic aptitude to marry emotions with realism, passion and pain amid cascading stunningly over minimal guitar led production divorces her sound from the hoi polloi of our generation.

“Pain just reminds me why I sing,” she says. “And not just for me; for everybody. They say in a funny sort of way musicians are like therapists,” she muses. “Because music is a universal language. Everybody has experienced some kind of heartache, especially in relationships, and music allows us to purge these feelings.” Listen to Brooks latest purge below.
