Jhené Aiko Airs Some Old Laundry in New Freestyle “Triggered”

When you listen to music, where does it take you and why do you go?”

Jhené Aiko ,the definition of what a vibe sounds like, releases her latest eyes-closed, head-swaying single “Triggered (Freestyle)” that’s bound to take listeners to a trip down relationship-lane with a hard left at “talk-yo-s***” avenue.

Aiko reflects,”I realized that instead of running away from my emotions…I needed to sit with them, express myself and say whatever came to mind…It was healing to say the least…and now I feel a bit more free.”

Time plays a vital role in getting over the pain of the “relationship dinosaurs” from our past but it can’t be still-time it has to be time in motion. In this record, Aiko puts one foot in front of the other and lyrically reveals that she’s triggered by her painful past but not living there anymore. Easing her finger off the trigger Aiko slips into this almost diary-like reflection of her emotions, reactions and growth. It would appear that the recent split from her beau Big Sean would have inflamed this record, however, Aiko clears up that rumor in a tweet stating, “Triggered is NOT a diss song. it is a moment of talking shit out of frustration and passion. it’s was a moment of exaggerated expression when I was feeling lost and weak. no one is to be blamed or bashed for how I was feeling in that moment. I am in control of my feelings.”

Regardless of who fueled the content for this track it’s a stand-out, therapeutic tune and the visual although bathed in past agony also gleams with relief. Check it out below.

Ikonic lyrics:

I’ll calm down eventually
Fall back eventually, please
Call me back eventually
Fall back into me, yeah
Maybe I’m overreacting
Baby, I don’t know what happened
You know all of my bad habits
