Do you know who I’m competing with?
I’m competing with the last version of myself that I deemed was the best – can I outdo her? That’s all that matters, yet some of you are competing with fiction. You desire the lives of others that you see online. You want their wealth, their cars, their homes, their relationships, their careers, their physique etc. Truth is, most of you are competing with the fiction that people call their real lives.
My social media may show my physical transformation but it doesn’t detail my emotional, mental and spiritual transformation. Thus, you see my success and my happy moments but you don’t and won’t see the nights I’ve cried myself to sleep. The days I’ve felt and looked like shit. The months and years of self-loathing and mental misery. I don’t document that for the world to see – that’s my preference, I show you what I want you to see and only that.
That said, if you find yourself competing with fiction – stop. I am inspired by others but not envious and if social media gifts you envy – gift it separation. Step away. I deactivated my Instagram for a few weeks not too long ago, it’s necessary but I refuse to chase the lives of others when 89% of them aren’t as they seem.
You need positive influences not unrealistic ones. The only life you get to live is yours – that should be enough and if you don’t like your life as it is, change something, learn something, do something. Be proactive not reactive. Address the true issue at hand: you don’t like yourself as you are.
One more time for those in the back.
You don’t like yourself as you are.
That’s why you chase the lives of others because you hate yours or wish it was better etc., so don’t wish – do! Write down what your ideal life would look like, include income, vacations, body goals etc. and then start attacking those goals but chasing fiction will only make you hate reality.
You got this!
